The arrest of a 74-year-old man for the rape of two children brings to eight the number of rapes reported on St. Thomas this year.
The man, as Alfred J. Williams, according to WVWI, lured the 5-year-old girl and the 8-year-old girl below his house in Donoe, where he allegedly raped them.
Bail for Williams was set at $75,000.
Williams' arrest Saturday followed by two days the arrest of a 20-year-old Anna's Retreat man on another rape charge.
In that case, the 13-year-old victim is pregnant, the Daily News reported Friday.
The paper quoted acting Police Chief Jose Garcia as saying Akeam K. Davis has been charged with four counts of second-degree rape and is being held on $75,000 bail.
Seven of this year's 13 rape victims in the Virgin Islands have been children, the paper said. Michal Rhymer of the Family Resource Center said the growing number of rapes reflects a greater willingness to report such crimes to police. As many rapes may have occurred in the past but victims didn't come forward.
