We are trying, like most of the senators, to reserve judgment on what is being called the Prosser-V.I. deal until we see all the conditions and terms that have been worked out.
Will it bring immediate cash to our empty coffers? Will it include provisions to assure that Jeffrey Prosser must keep his end of the deal — building an infrastructure at the Carambola property, bringing a drag strip to St. Croix, giving St. Thomas a library?
And when? What is the time line for these projects being completed?
The Daily News story said the land at Carambola will be subdivided and lots will be valued at between $18,000 to $46,000. Says who? Anything is only worth what someone else will pay for it, and without roads and utilities, well…how much is it worth?
There are many many more questions. We hope they will be answered publicly, clearly and completely before any bills are sent to the legislature.
If they are not, we hope the Senate will get the answers for us.
