Virgin Islands agencies, organizations and businesses are pitching in to assist government workers whose paychecks, due Thursday, were deferred until next week.
Disconnection notices that are routinely sent on Thursdays by the Water and
Power Authority will not be implemented until Tuesday, according to Raymond L. George, WAPA executive director. He said the authority will assist government employees by not disconnecting utility services Thursday, giving the employees whose paychecks have been deferred until next week a chance to get paid before their utilities are cut off.
Those who have already been cut off were asked to call WAPA and provide proof they are government workers and they will be reconnected.
However, according to Patricia Blake Simmonds, spokesperson for WAPA, only
government employees will be reconnected under the plan.
Carnival Committee announced Thursday that admission would be free to Music Fest I, scheduled Friday night at Lionel Roberts Stadium.
There will be no extra charge at the gate for the music Fest II on Saturday night or the Prince and Princess Selection Show on Sunday. The admission price will be the same as advanced purchase tickets. The committee said tickets that had been purchased in advance for Friday night’s show could be
used Saturday — or refunded.
Earlier this week the V.I. Bankers Association announced that all Virgin
Islands banks would waive late fees on loans and mortgages for two weeks until April 22.
The bankers’ announcement was made by Gwen Adams, president of the association, who said the banks’ fee waiver would be granted only to customers who are current on their loans, but would extend to all customers,
not just government employees.
