The stream of illegal immigrants — many of the Chinese nationals — into the Virgin Islands continues.
At 1:43 a.m. Sunday, April 11, the police received a report of Chinese nationals traveling in the area of Tabor and Harmony.
Upon investigation, officers from the V.I. Police Special Operations Bureau, assisted by U.S. marshals, apprehended 38 male Chinese nationals.
The 38 men were turned over to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service.
This was the second time in a week that illegal aliens were apprehended in St. Thomas.
On Tuesday, April 6, 18 Haitians were apprehended in the same area. Nabbed in that incident were seven adult females, five adult males, four minor girls and two minor boys.
All 18 were turned over to the INS.
V.I. officials have speculated that the illegal immigrants pay a set amount for passage through St. Martin and fraudulent documents.
