GERS OFFERING SCHOLARSHIPS TO UVI

0

The second annual University of the Virgin Islands Scholarships will be offered by the Government Employees’ Retirement System, GERS Administrator Laurence E. Bryan Jr. has announced.
Funded through the goodwill and generosity of the GERS’ investment managers, a scholarship trust fund was established at GERS on Feb. 11, 1992, to benefit dependents of GERS membership.
The scholarships provide full tuition at UVI for four years for students enrolled full-time in a program leading to a bachelor’s degree.
Candidates for scholarships will be selected from qualifying graduates of the territory’s high schools. Two finalists will be chosen from each island, St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix. Up to three scholarships may be awarded.
To be eligible to apply, a student must be the child, step-child or legal dependent of a contributing member of GERS, be a graduating senior of a high school in the territory, and have a grade-point average of no less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. All nominees must show financial need.
Applications are available on:
— ST. THOMAS: GERS Complex – 3rd Floor, Veterans Drive, St. Thomas, 00802
— ST. CROIX: GERS Complex, #3005 Orange Grove, Lot 5, Christiansted, St. Croix 00820-4313
— OR BY PHONE: Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands at (340) 774-6031.
Completed applications must be postmarked no later than May 15.
