FEMA SAYS: RETURN THE VEHICLES

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has asked Planning and Natural Resources to return 26 vehicles loaned to DPNR under a FEMA grant after Hurricane Marilyn.
FEMA official Carl Becker told Radio One news Friday that the vehicles were on a six-month loan. "It is now over three years later," Becker said.
Dean Plaskett, acting commissioner of DPNR, said the department would have to "make do with what we have," noting, "Everyone knew this day was coming."
Friday's Independent reported DPNR may also lose some of the building inspectors who were loaned to Planning by FEMA.
The vehicles will be shipped to Puerto Rico and sold at auction. Plaskett said it would make "more sense to sell the vehicles to us."
But Becker said that was not in keeping with federal regulations.
