MAJORETTES LEAD DELAYED CHILDREN'S PARADE

0

Majorettes, majorettes and twirlers, and more majorettes filled up large sections of Children's Parade Friday. Although there were the classic school floats and troupes, there was a big surge of Majorette "Girl Power" going up Main Street.
St. Croix Majorettes in blue, Charming Twirler Majorettes in red/orange and white, Stunts and Twirlers in burgundy and white, St. Thomas Majorettes in blue, there were no lack of colors and sizes in the lines of marching girls moving up the road on Friday. Most of the groups had their smallest members in the front followed by the more experienced in a separate column.
A mix up with the lead off float delayed the start of Children's Parade, making the midday heat a concern for many parents and chaperones. Umbrellas and damp towels and plenty of fluids were in evidence among the paraders. The younger children seemed to be holding up well at Post Office Square.
There were 51 entries this year and with the late start it was a long day for those at the end of the parade.
