STARFEST 5, A REALLY BIG SHOW

STARfest 5 is a great gospel show. STARfest 5 is a great calypso show. STARfest 5 is a great hip hop show. STARfest 5 is a great rhythm and blues show. STARfest 5 is a great Latin show. STARfest 5 is a great dance show. STARfest 5 is a great show of local talent.
STARfest 5 is all of the above. The production filled up the Reichhold Center Stage to the brim with exciting music and dance. The preview Thursday night was surprising in the consistent level of performances in every type of musical style. Moving gospel renditions were followed by graceful dancing, then explosive high energy hip hop. Ballads framed calypso songs including a turn on stage by new Calypso Monarch Whadablee.
Master of ceremonies Robert Luke worked hard to keep transitions smooth and the enthusiasm high between acts. The large number of changes was a technical challenge for both the experienced Reichhold staff and the newcomers to the big stage. There were imperfections, small glitches; as a preview this was a chance to identify the last few bugs and work them out.
When the preview crowd was leaving at 10:30 p.m. the cast and stage crew were gathering to keep working until STARfest 5 has all the sparkle of the celestial objects in the night sky above the Reichhold seating.
STARfest 5 will open at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 8 and will be followed by shows on Sunday, May 9, and Monday, May 10. All shows are at 8 p.m.
Though tickets at the Reichhold box office in the covered section are almost sold out for Saturday and Sunday, there are still tickets available for Monday night. Tickets are also available at Parrot Fish on Backstreet, Krystal Gifts Galore at Tutu Park Mall, Modern Music at Havensight, Draughting Shaft in Subbase, UVI Bookstore, 765 Beauty Supply at Four Winds Plaza, and Connections in St. John.
