'HOW TO' SYMPOSIUM ON MUSIC INDUSTRY SET

"Working in the Music Industry," a two-day symposium sponsored by the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and led by critically acclaimed Jazz flautist Sherry Winston will be held in the Reichhold Center lobby from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, May 12 and 13th. Winston will cover a wide range of subjects valuable to musicians, composers, lyricists and producers including: approaching corporations for work; assembling biography/press kits; how to produce a master demo tape; how to price your group/performance contract; how to find a distributor for your record; what lies ahead once you have a record deal; creating your own image and current listings of record companies and executives.
Winston is a Howard University College of Fine Arts graduate. After graduating from Howard she toured the country with her own band which included the then unknown pianist Roberta Flack. She has performed with such luminaries as Peabo Bryson, Regina Belle, Ramsey Lewis, Quincy Jones, Grover Washington, Jr. and Phyllis Hyman; was featured soloist with Herbie Mann and has appeared in concert with Hubert Laws at Carnegie Hall, as well as leading her own groups.
The two-time Grammy nominee is also the recipient of the NCAA Image Award, Howard University Alumni award, and the prestigious Eubie Blake award.
In addition to personal performances she has been associated with CBS,
Arista, GRP and Elektra records in Jazz Promotion.
Fees are $25 each day for full sessions and $15 for half days.
