BOMB THREAT AT IEKHS DOESN'T CLOSE SCHOOL

A bomb threat called into Ivanna Eudora Kean High School Monday disrupted classes for a couple of hours, but failed to shut down the school.
The students missed one class period, according to Sinclair Wilkinson, principal at Eudora Kean.
The call came in around 8 a.m. and police were called. The school has an evacuation plan, which was implemented.
June Archibald, public relations director for the Education Department, said, "We were pretty sure it was a hoax, but we can't take any chances."
School administrators broke into teams along with police officers and combed the area.
Archibald said a decision was made not to dismiss school. "I hate to say it, but this kind of thing is not unusual for this time of year. It's almost the end of school and the kids just want to get out."
The students were back in their classrooms by 10 a.m., according to Archibald.
"Commissioner Simmonds and the other school administrators are determined that the instructional process will be interrupted as little as possible," she said.
