Senate committees will meet every day this week addressing issues from a ban on incineration to the Financial Accountability Act to the practices of the Public Services Commission.
On Monday the Planning and Environmental Protection Committee will consider a ban on incineration.
Tuesday the Finance Committee will tackle the huge Financial Accountability Act by placing a motion to break the measure into three separate bills — fiscal policies, revenue enhancement and economic stimulus. Once the bill is separated, the committee will offer amendments on each one and pass them on to the Rules Committee.
Wednesday there will be a Committee of the Whole meeting to receive testimony on the duties, practices, operations and other issues relating to the Public Services Commission. The meeting was called by Senate President Vargrave Richards after Sen. Adlah "Foncie" Donastorg — after several attempts — finally got eight senators to sign a petition calling for it.
Several members of the PSC and others have been asked to testify.
On Thursday the Rules Committee will meet on St. Croix to consider two more Cabinet appointees, Karen M Andrews, acting chief negotiator, and William Quetel to head the Office of Collective Bargaining.
Friday the Government Operations Committee will meet on St. Croix to consider several amendments to the V.I. Code related to operation of crematories, absentee ballots, retirement annuities and a voter registration fund.
