SHOPPING
Visitors must declare everything that is purchased outside the continental U.S. When going through Customs, you must present a Customs Declaration to officials that lists all purchases and their value. Because St. Croix is a part of the U.S., U.S. residents are allowed a duty-free shopping quota of $1,200. In addition to this exemption, U.S. residents are allowed to mail home to friends and relatives an unlimited number of gifts, as long as each one is worth $100 or less. Articles up to $1,000 above the $1,200 duty-free allowance (per person) are assessed a flat rate of 5 percent. Sums over that are dutiable.
To ship purchases back to the U.S., obtain a Customs Form 255 at any store. The form details purchases for Customs, which stamps it. Return the stamped form to the merchant and the material will be shipped to you.
Most of the shopping on St. Croix is located in Christiansted and in Frederiksted when a cruise ship is in port. In Christiansted, one a can find perfume, liquor, cameras, china, porcelain, crystal, imported clothing, leather goods and jewelry. Stores are located on King, Company and Strand Streets.
Outside of the two historic towns are Sunshine Mall and Sunny Isle Shopping Center.
