CFVI SEEKS INFORMATION FOR DIRECTORY

0

For the first time, a comprehensive Community Services Directory is being compiled for the Virgin Islands, but the organizers need information now from all government and non- profit service providers.
If you are part of a government or non-profit agency that provides social services in the Virgin Islands and you haven't received a form for inclusion in the directory, please call the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands at 774-6031 to get one. The deadline for submitting information has been change to July 22.
The directory will be published in the upcoming Virgin Islands Telephone Corp. telephone book. It also will be put online through St. Thomas Source and other websites, and will be available at public libraries and other locations.
The directory grew out of a community-wide meeting called earlier this year by U.S. Attorney James Hurd to address youth violence. Participants quickly realized that they had no central reference directory of services available in the Virgin Islands.
So since March, representatives of community, non-profits and public-sector agencies have been meeting to collaborate on creating a Community Services Directory for the Virgin Islands. Now the main thing missing is information from a number of service providers.
The directory will identify where youth, their families or other members of their household can receive help, whether it costs anything and where it is located. It also will state whether sites are handicap-accessible or have bilingual capability.
For more information call Dee Baecher-Brown, executive director of CFVI, at 774- 6031.
