A St. Thomas man pleaded guilty Friday to charges of unlawful dealing in firearms, the U. S. Attorney's Office announced.
Leslie Meyers II, 22, was arrested in October 1998 when he arrived on a Delta flight at Cyril E. King Airport with 12 handguns, a .45 caliber rifle, various firearms components and boxes of ammunition in his luggage.
The flight originated in Tallahassee, Fla.
While in Florida, Meyers discussed by telephone selling the firearms with an undercover Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agent in St. Thomas. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Meyers agreed to sell the weapons to the ATF agent.
In recorded phone conversations, Meyers also said that on prior occasions, he had engaged in firearms sales in which he had brought and sent firearms to St. Thomas.
Meyers did not have a federal or territorial license to deal in firearms.
The maximum penalty Meyers faces is five years' imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.
