Although stormy skies threatened and roared on Sunday, the rain and wind didn't stop 70 boats from going out and fishing the 12th Annual Bastille Day Kingfish tournament. The overall prize for Largest Kingfish went to Marielle Brandon, who not only scooped up $2000 for the kingfish, but also scored Best Female Angler for the second year in a row.
The second largest kingfish award also went to a female angler, Agnes Bryan. It was not until the third position that Doug Lozien joined the best. The 163 fish caught totaled up to more than 1200 pounds and scored a wide variety of prizes for participating fishermen (and women).
Greg Miller had the best boat with 15 fish. Felix Greaux took best captain with three kingfish and won the Caribe dinghy and a Yamaha motor supplied by Offshore Marine. Best Male Angler was Michael Berry with a catch of 44.54 pounds of fish. The best junior male angler was Julius Aubain and the best junior female was Darah Wentworth.
In addition to sponsors Bellows International, Offshore Marine, Vitel Cellular, and FedEx providing prizes for the anglers, the Northside Sportfishing Club donates proceeds from this event to several community organizations. The Joseph Sibilly School, St. Thomas Rescue, the American Red Cross, and the Victims Advocate Program were selected as beneficiaries this year.
