LANDSCAPE MONTH AT ST. GEORGE VILLAGE BOTANICAL GARDEN

0

Concluding a month-long series, St. George Botanical Garden will sponsor
two final programs on how homeowners can effectively landscape their yards and grounds.
Ken Jones, curator of the botanical gardens, will discuss plant selection on Wednesday, Aug. 18. Jones will give a slide presentation and lecture featuring a wide variety of ornamental plants, which can be used successfully in the home landscape.
Emphasis will be on ground covers, vines, shrubs and trees. Jones will describe their growth requirements, drought tolerance and general uses.
On Wednesday, Aug. 25, David Hamada, botanical garden horticulturist, will end the lecture series with a workshop on xeriscaping, or drought tolerant landscaping. Hamada will show how to plan and install a landscape that is water efficient and easy to maintain. Whether old or new, home landscapes can be more water efficient by applying the water-wise principles of Xeriscape.
Both presentations will be held in the Great Hall at the St. George Botanical Garden at 7 p.m. Garden members are admitted free; there is a $5 charge for non-members. For more information, contact: Phyllis Charles at 340.692-2874.
