ISLANDERS URGED TO GET FLOOD INSURANCE

0

There are only 2,017 federal flood insurance policies in effect in the Virgin Islands, Delegate Donna Christian-Christensen said in a release Friday urging others to secure coverage to ensure protection in the event of hurricane-related flooding.
Virgin Islands residents who do not have flood coverage can purchase policies even though the territory is into the hurricane season. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) public service announcements distributed to local radio stations are informing residents about the benefits of flood insurance.
"It is important for residents to be pro-active," the delegate said, noting that the National Weather Service has projected an active hurricane season.
