SEWAGE SYSTEM DISCHARGES AGAIN

0

Debris in the Department of Public Works’ sewage collection system caused a discharge at the corner of Water Gut and Kings Cross Street Wednesday morning.
According to DPW Commissioner Harold Thompson, debris in the system damaged an auxiliary pump causing sewage to discharge. Thompson said that while crews expected to have repairs done quickly, the discharge may impact the quality of water in the area.
Thompson also said that the department has put a "speedy end" to another discharge at Barren Spot. That spill happened after rats chewed into the wiring for electric pump motors. The commissioner said that new "rodent proof" electric motors have been installed and a similar standby motor is on order.
