It's "one night stand week" starting on Labor Day in the Bakkeroe's nightclub at Marriott's Frenchman's Reef Beach Resort, with six nights of tryouts that could lead to a contract for at least one of the bands taking part.
Some of the six nights are already reserved, but there are still openings for other combos, according to Frank Marinelli, assistant food and beverage manager. He's not saying who's playing when, so unless you have connections, you won't find out until you get there.
The music begins at 9 p.m. nightly Monday through Saturday, Sept. 6-11.
Based on the evaluations of a panel of in-house judges, who will in part base their decisions on crowd response, one or more of the bands may be selected for a contract to play at the Reef for at least three months, Marinelli says.
He says type of music sought is "versatile, a good danceable sound," but also able to "play Yellow Bird' on request."
Representatives of bands interested in giving it a try should call Marinelli at 776-8500, ext. 6500. Folks interested in evaluating their sounds need only be there.
