GERT FORECAST – STEERING CLEAR OF VI

0

National Hurricane Center forecast models agree that Gert will pass well to the north of the Lesser Antilles. Gert has moved slowly as far north as St. Thomas while still more than 600 miles to the east of us.
The 5 a.m. location of Gert was given as 18.1 degrees north, 52.2 degrees west, with maximum wind speeds of 135 mph.
An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter probed the storm just before the morning report, which resulted in the top windspeed being adjusted down about 10 mph.
The forecast does predict high northeast swells from the passing storm over the coming weekend, but otherwise the Virgin Islands should feel few effects of Gert.
These are predictions and forecasters recommend staying alert in case conditions change.
