Whoever placed a padlock and chain on the door of the Government Employees Retirement System office on St. Croix Monday morning kept workers at bay for several hours.
According to Lawrence Bryan, GERS administrator, someone put a heavy chain and lock through the handles of the front doors at the Estate Orange Grove building sometime Sunday night or Monday morning.
"To the best of my knowledge it’s not employee-related," Bryan said.
Bryan said Monday’s sabotage was the third incident involving the GERS building in the past month. In one instance the building was burglarized and another time a window was broken.
Police were called to the building on Monday to investigate the incident. A locksmith later removed the padlock.
