Tourism Commissioner-designate Michael Bornn set the example — committing his own company, Seslia Securities, to adopt a section of property along Veterans Drive to beautify and maintain litter-free on a volunteer basis.
Seslia pledged to the St. Thomas Anti-Litter and Beautification Commission to care for the area between the V.I. Boy Scouts Council building and the pumping station by Long Bay.
Now, two other businesses have followed suit: Chalet D'Or and Innovations by Design have adopted areas between the pumping station and the Queen Louise Home for the Aged.
Bornn, in a Tourism Department release Wednesday, commended the firms for their initiatives and the commission "for realizing that through cooperative and bold efforts, many problems in this community can be solved."
He noted that the ALBC, the Tourism Department and the St. Thomas-St. John Hotel and Tourism Association are working together to beautify the area between the Smith Bay ballfield and Sapphire Beach Resort and Marina. Through such cooperative efforts, he said, projects that "would normally take months, even years," can be realized "in a matter of days."
Information on adopting a spot to beautify and keep litter-free on St. Thomas may be obtained by calling the ALBC at 777-3073.
