Police on St. Thomas picked up 39 Chinese nationals Sunday morning in Tabor and Harmony, according to a release from Police Chief Jose Garcia.
However, Willis Reeves, spokesperson for Immigration and Naturalization Service on St. Croix, said the count was 40 Chinese nationals picked up in the latest roundup. No one at INS St. Thomas could be reached for comment, despite several attempts.
After the V.I. police picked up the men, they were released into the custody of INS.
Reeves said 315 Chinese nationals have entered the territory since Jan. 11, 1998; 93 have come through St. Croix and the rest through St. Thomas and St. John.
