A former St. Croix Central High School student was stabbed to death on the school’s property Friday afternoon.
According to V.I. Police Department officials, 19-year-old Kareem McIntosh was stabbed in the chest around 1:30 p.m. Friday just outside the CHS gymnasium during an altercation with several other young men.
He died a few hours later at Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital.
A 17-year-old male was charged with McIntosh's death.
Police said they had no motive for the stabbing. Others involved in the fight have been taken into custody.
McIntosh’s death is the first at a St. Croix public school in 1999. Last year, two male students died as a result of schoolyard violence. In one incident a 15-year-old Woodson Junior High School student was stabbed by a classmate as he got off a school bus. The assailant, who was sentenced to 30 years in prison, was angry because he had been taunted by the victim.
In another incident, a student was hit in the head by a special education student with a drafting T-square. The victim later succumbed to his injury in a hospital in Puerto Rico.
