Cape Air, the largest independent regional airline in the country, is now flying between St. Croix and St. Thomas and St. Croix and San Juan.
The Massachusetts-based airline is offering five daily flights between the territory’s main islands. Company officials have said that the additional nine-seat, twin-engine Cessna aircraft the airline uses can be added if there is demand.
Cape Air isn’t entirely new to the territory. It began service between St. Thomas and San Juan, Puerto Rico, last November.
Along with the flights between St. Croix’s Henry E. Rohlsen Airport and the Cyril King Airport on St. Thomas, the airline will link San Juan and St. Croix with eight daily flights, the last leaving the Big Island at 8:15 p.m.
And starting on Nov. 1, Gulfstream International Airlines began offering round-trip flights between St. Croix and San Juan and St. Thomas and San Juan. According to Gulfstream officials, the airline, which is called the Continental Connection, will offer seven daily roundtrip flights between St. Croix and Puerto Rico’s main airport, while St. Thomas will have 11.
In total, Gulfstream will fly 400 flights per week using six 19-passenger, twin-engine Beechcraft airplanes. The airline is also flying from San Juan to St. Maarten and St. Kitts.
Cape Air’s fares for St. Croix-St. Thomas are $98 round trip, while the St. Croix-San Juan fare is $99. Prices don’t include taxes. Gulfstream’s Continental Connection is also $99 between St. Croix and San Juan.
