CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT COMING UP

0

Local golfers will have a chance to become rich golfers starting at 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 12 when the St. Thomas-St. John Chamber of Commerce holds its $1,000,000 shoot-out golf tournament at Mahogany Run Golf Course.
If you don't take home the cool $1,000,000 annuity sponsored by C. E. Brathwaite & Associates and Guardian Insurance for scoring an ace, don't lose hope. There are five $20,000 prizes ranging from jewels from A. H. Riise to a cash prize from Radio One and one from Johnny Walker Scotch, and two shopping sprees donated by Diamonds International and Bernard Passman. The top five teams will also receive round-trip tickets from American Airlines to anywhere in the mainland, with Wittnauer watches for each member. And these are by no means the only prizes or sponsors; almost every kind of business is represented.
Tournament Chairman Ted Bast, of A.H. Riise, said he really hopes someone wins the hole-in-one at the annual affair, (and the $1,000,000). He noted that the coveted ace was shot last year with the winner taking home $50,000. Bast has gotten the elusive ace only once in a career of golfing, though his son hit one at 15 years of age. Bast said it takes "skill, but also luck." He noted that the late Judge Almeric Christian hit one a few years ago when the Judge's eyesight was nearly gone.
Goodies for the annual fund-raising affair are being supplied by Franks Bakery and McDonalds for breakfast; lunch by the Yellow book; bags by A.H. Riise and Captains corner and golf shirts by Sprint and The Point of Contact. All are included in the entry fee of $100 per player. Sign-up is at the Mahogany Run Pro Shop. Trophies will be supplied by Guardian Insurance.
