UNION CHIEF SUBMITS CHRISTMAS WISH LIST

0

Glen Smith, president of the St. Thomas-St. John American Federation of Teachers, has a Christmas wish list. Here it is.
It is a known fact that both private sector and government employees received numerous promises by our political leaders made along the campaign trail.
However, workers are very seldom approached during the Christmas season with the yuletide question, "What do you want for Christmas?"
Perhaps our elected leaders are afraid to ask because expectations of the workers might place unreasonable demands on our treasury during these times of fiscal austerity.
However, we are convinced that if our leaders would put aside their petty personal political differences, at least one or two of the following items on our list could be packaged and placed under our tree before Christmas morning,
Partial payment of retroactive wages
. Place all government workers on their correct salary schedules
. Reduce rates/fees of GERS and the Credit Union
. Move all government offices into government owned building
. Radical improvement collection of government revenues
. Develop a wholistic approach towards addressing youth on youth violence
. Reclamation of our beloved Market Square
. Diversification of our economy
. Call our next Constitutional Convention
. Fix the pot holes in our streets
Many workers will not have a bountiful Christmas filled with ham, sweet bread and guavaberry. There are simply too many scrooges living in government house and hanging out in the halls of the Legislature.
