WORLDJAM 2000 SET FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

0

The second edition of the WorldJam Series has been rescheduled for May 27-29 Memorial Day Weekend. Sponsors already on board include CellularOne, Coors, Bellows International and Tropical Shipping.
Produced by Cause Effective Arts Program (CEAP), WorldJam Series is the highly anticipated follow-up to the wildly successful first edition which featured BeachJam ‘99 at Magens Bay with Tito Puente and World Jam which showcased Original Danish Polcalypso Orchestra in free concerts on all three islands. This unique concert sequence features a panoply of intriguing music and performing arts centered on the infectious rhythms of "global or world" music, i.e. zouk, compas, cadence salsa, Latin and Brazilian jazz, meringue, quelbe, blues, calypso, samba, Afro-beat mainstream and roots reggae. It’s an ongoing celebration and showcase of live performances, youth art exhibits and local cuisine — something for the entire family.
WorldJam 2000, is expected to feature another all star line-up of legends and virtuosos. Memorial Day will host local talent on Main Street and will coincide with the St. Thomas leg of Tom Joyner’s Fantastic Voyage. The Tourism Department will continue to aggressively market the event.
"CEAP is excited about our new schedule and format," said Steve Bornn, president. "The new timing will allow further cooperation and investment from more regional and national sponsors. More sponsorship translates to bigger and better everything."
In it’s first year of existence, CEAP is a non-profit organization that was founded by Bornn and Bill Grogan, who have a shared interest in the role of the arts in the Virgin Islands. It is dedicated to showcasing various international art forms, while establishing a continuing means for aiding selected non-profit efforts. WorldJam is one of several events planned for the Virgin Islands in 2000. For more information call (340) 777-5177.
