GROUPS TO DISCUSS NPS GATEWAY PROGRAM

0

National Park Service officials will meet with organization representatives at the Legislature Building to see whether there is interest in involving Cruz Bay in the Gateway Community program for towns located by major national park sites.
NPS planning consultants are available to work with Gateway communities to assist them in developing plans to cope with growing numbers of visitors and to ensure sustainable development. However, the program must be a local initiative with broad-based community support.
Cruz Bay is the gateway to the V.I. National Park, making it eligible for such assistance for town enhancements. In order for Cruz Bay to be considered, a group of interested citizens must approach the park service and state their intent to seek the planning, logistical and financial assistance.
Any St. John resident interested in working with others to obtain Gateway support is urged to attend the meeting Thursday, Jan. 27, at 6:30 p.m. Call 693-5000 for more information.
