The Virgin Islands Port Authority shut down the runway at the Cyril E. King Airport Monday evening while firefighters moved an aircraft that landed with a flat tire to a safe location.
The runway closing was a precautionary measure, according to a release from VIPA.
A Tolair DC-3 cargo plane landed at 5:25 p.m. with a flat tire. The four crew members on board were uninjured in the landing.
The runway closing, which was in effect for an hour, delayed the arrival of five flights. The runway reopened at 6:22 p.m.
This was the second time in three days that the airport went into precautionary mode. On Saturday a bomb threat closed the facility for 42 minutes while the police bomb squad searched the building.
