WAPA URGES WATER CONSERVATION

0

The VI Water and Power Authority is urging St. Croix residents to conserve water as the utility does maintenance work on one of its water desalination units.
Israel Desalination Unit (IDE) 3, which produces 1.25 million gallons of water a day, will be taken out of service for eight weeks in mid-February for scheduled maintenance work.
During that time WAPA is urging the public to practice water conservation to reduce or prevent the necessity of water rationing. WAPA officials are also requesting that government agencies, businesses, institutions and the general public fill their cisterns during January and the first two weeks of February and use the water while IDE 3 is out of service.
Water conservation measures that can be used include fixing leaky faucets, sweep sidewalks, wash full loads in washing machines and dishwashers, wash cars with buckets and sponge instead of letting the hose run, turn off the faucet while brushing teeth or washing dishes, take short showers, and water lawns and gardens after the sun goes down to reduce water loss due to evaporation.
