ONCE A ROY…ALWAYS A ROY

We were surprised, to say the least, at former Gov. Roy L. Schneider's decision to respond publicly to criminal charges brought against him.
But when the public circus actually took place, we had to say "of course" – the former governor has remained true to form.
Apparently he never understood that his style was part of what took him down in his last bid for the office of the governor.
The people of the Virgin Islands are not that easy to bamboozle.
The sly, underhanded – and silly – aspersions cast at Jean Greaux, a witness in the case for the government, and Walter Brunner, a beneficiary – in the words of the lead prosecutor – of Schneider's largess after Marilyn, during the hour-long live broadcast were downright ugly and beneath the dignity of a former governor.
But again, wasn't that how Gov. Schneider did things during his tenure? And isn't that what the electorate got fed up with?
We don't think Schneider gained anything Thursday during his paid public display. As he did so often during his term in office and his re-election campaign, he merely shot himself in the foot.
