V.I. and Danish history buffs will get their fill at the University of the Virgin Islands archival symposiums later this week.
The symposiums are being held in connection with the eighty-third anniversary of Transfer Day. The symposiums, From Griots to Archivists: Modes of Historical Memory, are scheduled for March 30 on St. Thomas and April 1 on St. Croix.
The discussions are in keeping with the bilateral agreement reached last year between the V.I. government and Denmark to share archival information relating to the former Danish West Indies.
"These symposiums are part of the USVI-Danish Friendship Month activities and will aid in the presentation, conservation and management of important cultural needs," said Gov. Charles Turnbull, a historian.
The St. Thomas event will be held in the second-floor ballroom at Government House. On St. Croix the discussion will be at the UVI cafeteria on the St. Croix campus. Both events start at 9 a.m. Dr. Marilyn Krigger will moderate the St. Thomas event and Gerard Emanuel will host the St. Croix discussion.
