Dear Source,
You cannot imagine how bad this looks to someone who was thinking of taking his family to your islands this summer for a long overdue vacation.
There was an episode on the old Andy Griffith show about a stranger who came to Mayberry who knew the town and its people like he lived there. The townspeople became suspicious; very suspicious indeed! The sheriff finally confronts the man, who confesses that he subscribed to the town newspaper for about a year. From the articles in the newspaper, he decided Mayberry was the place he wanted to live, so he had made the trip there. I never forgot
that episode.
I wonder how many other strangers like me are out there reading The Source, forming opinions of whether the Virgin Islands are a place they want to visit or consider someday calling home?
I do not mean to imply that you shouldn't have run this article. More important than the incident itself is what happens afterwards, and I hope you follow-up on that. So far, has anyone even apologized?
Every community has its problems and embarrassing moments.
With the Internet and a site such as yours, you never know who is looking in. Maybe the Internet will at least contribute to putting government, as well as all of us, on our best behavior.
Anyhow, I've enjoyed your website for the last few months. Really a great website! I'll continue to visit frequently.
