Sen. Lorraine L. Berry announced Wednesday the schedule of activities for the July 14 Bastille Day celebration.
Dr. Paul Arguin, a nationally recognized epidemiologist and current director of the Virgin Islands STD/HIV/TB program, will be the keynote speaker in an event to take place at 6:00p.m. at Magens Point Resort. Arguin, who is of French lineage, will speak on French heritage, immigration, and contributions the French have made to the development of the Virgin Islands.
In a release from her office, Berry also announced that all students of French decent who graduated this year from UVI, or high school should attend in order to receive a certificate of commendation at the reception.
Shelli Danielle Brin and Pualani Armstrong will make their first public appearance as queen and princess of French Heritage 2000.
Odile de Lyrot who has been appointed the new Consulate of France will be introduced at the event. De Lyrot replaced Aimery Caron, who has retired. Caron has served as Consulate since 1983.
Refreshments will be served to the sounds of the Seabreeze Band, who will provide dancing music until midnight thus ending the first Bastille Day Millennium celebration, Berry said.
