SEABORNE PREPARES TO FLY AGAIN

Seaborne Seaplanes planned to be back in the water and in the air by noon Wednesday, said Steve Betz, Seaborne St. Thomas station manager.
The problem isn't with the aircraft, but with the docks they tie up to. Under storm conditions, the three heavy, cumbersome docks must be towed up onto the concrete ramp. This is one problem Seaborne's predecessors, the Grumman Gooses operations, didn't have to contend with as the amphibious aircraft came right up on the ramp where the passengers boarded. Passengers on Seaborne board from the docks.
The operation Wednesday morning ran into a little snag, though. Bobby's Towing Service pulled and pulled, the docks wouldn't budge until somebody came up with the magic ingredient – water. A little hosing down underneath the enormous truck tires that support the docks did the trick.
For Wednesday departure time, call (340) 773-6442.
