A man using an automated teller machine at the Red Hook Banco Popular branch in the predawn hours Thursday was robbed at knifepoint, according to information from the Police Department.
Deputy Police Chief Theodore Carty said in a release that the victim, identified as Tony McFadden, said he had been approached by three black men with dreadlocks, one of them wielding a knife. The release said McFadden told police the trio made off in a beige Suzuki Samurai with a black soft top after robbing him of $200 and his charge cards.
Carty said police were alerted to the 4:40 a.m. incident via a telephone call made from the nearby Duffy's Love Shack and that McFadden sustained scratches and bruises from his assailants. The deputy chief said the crime has been classified as first-degree robbery and that anyone with information relating to it should call the police at 777-8711 or the emergency operator at 911.
