Well-known aromatherapy specialists Bryan and Light Miller will be conducting a course in October on St. Thomas in the use of essential oils for physical, mental and emotional health.
The Millers are co-authors of "Ayurveda and Aromatherapy."
Aromatherapy is the art and science of using scent and aroma to beautify, rejuvenate, revitalize, support and heal the body.
"Alternative medicine is today seeing a resurgence of ancient healing techniques, " according to Bryan Miller. "This is due to the inadequacies of modern allopathic medicine and the shortcomings of our traditional natural and herbal medicines. Ayurveda and aromatherapy both offer insight and alternative to health care that are tried and true."
The course will cover:
History
Chemistry
Preparation of salves, blended, oils, perfumes and aphrodisiac blends
Combined color and aroma therapy
Hair and beauty care
Medicinal uses
Connection between psychology and the olfactory nerves.
Principles of blending
Contra-indications
Safety
The classes will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sat. Oct. 7 and Sun. Oct. 8.
Attendees will receive a certificate for 20 hours of continuing education (CEU credits).
The two-day class costs $320 $290 if received by Sept. 25.
