To the editor:
In view of the Virgin Islands Election System's dependence on our public schools as the venue for holding General and Run-Off elections and the current problem of public school children losing many days at the beginning of this school year, I believe that the powers that be within the Virgin Islands Government should explore the feasibility of changing the dates of both the General and Run-Off elections to November 11th and November 24th respectively. Public school children do not need to lose any additional days if there are options to prevent this from happening.
Unless there are federal laws prohibiting this change, the local legislature should move speedily to amend current law to allow for this change. Our students would be the primary beneficiaries and the people of the territory could feel satisfied that an effort was made to ease the impact on our children that our present set of circumstances that have created for them.
