HIGHLANDER: ENDGAME – THE FINAL SAGA

Is "Highlander: Endgame" a "pulse-pounding final chapter" in the Highlander saga, as its producers claim, or a "video game come to life," as one critic proclaims?
A little of both, perhaps. This is the fourth movie spawned from the popular 1990s television "Highlander" series. It all started in 15th century Scotland with immortal rivals Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) and Duncan MacLeod (Adrian Paul) trying to lop one another's heads off lo those many years ago. But things have changed here.
It is now year 2000, and the two old adversaries join forces to slay the baddest immortal of them all, the evil Kell (Bruce Payne). The movie glides, none too gracefully according to some, between time zones. Not Eastern Standard, but centuries, from the 15th to the 21st.
Immortals only die when their heads are removed by sword, at which time their powers transfer to their slayer. Kell has 661 heads under his belt. Big trouble here.
Fans of the epic series, should come get your last glimpse of the hardy Scot lads in what is called "pure energy with startling fantasy effects" by fans, and "borderline incoherent" by others. But, as they say, that's what makes horse races.
The movie is directed by Douglas Aarniokoski and Doug Aarniokoski, or so we're told. It is rated R for violence and some strong sexuality.
It starts Thursday at Market Square East.
