A tentative agreement was reached Wednesday between the American Federation of Teachers and the V.I. government.
A statement from Government House indicated that two days of round-the-clock negotiations between government Chief Negotiator Karen Andrews and Glen Smith and Tyrone Molyneaux of the AFT yielded the agreement. Details are not yet available.
Union members will vote on ratification on Thursday, though the time and place have not been announced.
The talks were mediated by Francis Dunham and Ken Kowalski of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. They will report on their mediation efforts within two weeks to the Public Employees Relations Board.
Teachers, paraprofessionals and support staff were ordered back to work on Nov. 3 by Territorial Court Judge Brenda Hollar after three weeks on strike. They were demanding long-promised step salary increases.
Three tentative contracts forged by AFT negotiators and the government failed to muster enough support among members to pass.
