The Banco Popular Accounting and Human Resources department on St. Thomas gave as good as it got this holiday season, garnering the bank's Virgin Islands prize as overall winner for best holiday decorations.
All Banco Popular branches and units in the Virgin Islands region competed, based on the theme "The Act of Giving" with emphasis on the emotion and good wishes behind the exchanging of gifts.
A panel of local judges from Tortola, St. Croix and St. Thomas judged the displays based on ingenuity and adherence to the theme and on corporate standards. No outside professional help was allowed.
Judges also recognized Consumer Lending in St. Croix for best decorating; Mortgage, Consumer Loans and Electronic Banking in St. Thomas for exceptional ingenuity and teamwork; the Cash Depot in St. Thomas for greatest show of spirit, enthusiasm, love and giving; and Commercial Loans, Operations, Executive and Credit Administration on St. Thomas for best theme throughout.
Judges were Dougal Thornton, a professional photographer and graphic designer in Tortola; Maxine Fredericks, owner of The Comfort Zone on St. Thomas; Mary Davis, retired arts teacher; and Hedda Finch of Custom Builders on St. Croix. The panel said it was impressed with the holiday spirit displayed in the winning decorations and with the team spirit shown within each department.
