"MAPes MONDe grew out of a personal collection of prints, started in the late 1950s, for a display in my grand-father's store. Developed over years of seeking images for showing in island schools, illustrating books I am writing, and for re-publication of books that I believe benefit from illustrations which MAPes MONDe is publishing.
MAPes MONDe.com is a store following family tradition since the 1870s when my family immigrated to St Thomas, then the Danish West Indies. It is virtually situated in the Virgin Islands. It is immersed in Virgin Island historical material and it will evolve as did our various families' businesses, as an emporium of selected goods from all over the world -carefully selected from innumerable sources around the world in a process of interaction with customers. "MAPes MONDe" cryptically means "My World" and I shall try to make it reflect the taste and knowledge that has been my heritage, commercially, socially and politically."
