Join the UVI Carnival Troupe
Come jam with the UVI Carnival Troupe at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, outside the new UVI Sports and Fitness Center. See the costumes and sign up for the UVI Carnival Troupe. Then, jump up with UVI's Carnival Troupe as they get ready for a Millennium of Fun for 2001 on Friday, March 9 from 7 p.m. until at the Harvey Student Center cafeteria.
One costume will be raffled off at the March 9 dance. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for UVI students with I.D. and can be purchased at the UVI Bookstore or from any troupe member. For information about signing up for the UVI Carnival Troupe, on St. Thomas call Cindy Richardson at 693-1140 or Tannesia Petersen at 693-1206. On St. Croix, please call Maria Friday at 693-4194 or Nereida Washington at 693-4183.
Afternoon on the Green
The Sea Breeze Band, the UVI Jazz Ensemble, the Mungo Niles Cultural Dancers and students from the V.I. Institute for the Performing Arts will perform at UVI’s 12th annual "Afternoon on the Green" on Sunday, Feb. 25 from 12 noon to 6 p.m. Sample some of the world’s most delectable foods prepared by local cooks. On the menu will be main dishes, meats, poultry, seafood, soups, side dishes, breads, native drinks, pastries, sweets, vegetables and casseroles. Admission is free and food will be judged first, then sampled at $2 a taste.
Planned Giving Seminars
The University of the Virgin Islands and attorneys Linda Baxter and Marjorie Roberts will conduct public seminars to give the Virgin Islands community some basic information regarding wills, bequests, and the benefits of making planned gifts. The seminar on St. Croix is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21 in room 133 of the Research and Extension Center building. The seminar on St. Thomas is at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26 at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center, 2nd floor meeting room. Interested people should contact either Deborah Hamilton
(693-1042) or Stella Saunders (692-4023) to reserve a seat.
Student IRS Tax forms
The accounting department has mailed all UVI students newly required 1098T tax forms or Tuition Payment Statements as required by the IRS Tax Relief Act of 1997. If there are any questions about eligibility for a tax education credit, students should contact their tax advisor or the local IRB.
Free Tax Preparation
The UVI community and the public are invited to take advantage of free income tax preparation from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 in the UVI Financial Aid Office, located on the St. Thomas campus in the Rouppe House Building. To make an appointment, call 693-1090. Walk-ins will also be accepted.
