WORK BEGINS ON PAVING PROJECT

Drivers on the Bovoni Road between Bolongo Bay and Bovoni are in for a smooth ride soon, as work began on the road this week in the first step of an island-wide pavement rehabilitation program.
Acting Public Works Commissioner Wayne Callwood said the project consists of asphalt paving, drainage, concrete and guard rail work. Bolongo is the first area to be improved. Next will be sections of Fortuna Bay Road, Smith Bay Road and Weymouth Rhymer Highway.
"Dates for the work will be announced prior to the start of work," Callwood said.
Callwood said the work will be continuous, easing only for rush-hour traffic, 7 to 8 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.
The $2 million road program is paid by federal highway funds. Callwood said, "Motorists are advised to use extreme caution when traveling in areas under construction. Large vehicles are urged to seek alternate routes."
