May 18, 2001 – Works by St. Thomas painter Jacqueline Cawley and St. John artist Deborah St. Clair will be featured at the May Da Da Wine Down, set for Friday, May 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Café Amici. The wines of the month are from Georges Duboeuf.
The artists will be on hand to discuss their work, and a representative of Bellows International will present a continuous wine seminar throughout the evening to accompany the tasting of four wines, as long as supplies last.
Admission to the event is free, with complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. There's a $10 fee for the wine tasting and seminar. Door prizes to be awarded toward the end of the evening include dining certificates, wine and artwork.
Cawley works in oil, acrylic and watercolor, painting island people and places. She's a regular Caribbean Colour exhibitor and has shown her work locally at the old Jimmy's Studio and in the Visitor Center alongside Emancipation Garden. She also has illstrated three books and did the pen-and-ink drawings used in Magens Point Resort marketing materials.
St. Clair works in many mediums, oil being her favorite, and she prefers to work out-of-doors on location. Her eyes see and her brushes record "a slow dance that is wonderful to be a part of." This is her second time exhibiting at Cafe Amici. She also has shown at Bajo El Sol, Chase Bank and Pink Papaya on St. John. She took first prize in oil at the 2000 and 2001 Caribbean Colour exhibits and first and second place, respectively, with her monotypes in 1998 and '99. Her work is represented at Bajo El Sol, Pink Papaya and the Blue Turtle on St. Thomas.
The final Friday of each month is Da Da Wine Down time at Café Amici, located downtown in Riise's Alley. For more information, call Café Amici at 776-5670.
