NEW DELLY DECK OWNERS PLAN NO BIG CHANGES

July 16, 2001 – After a long run in one of St. Thomas's favorite watering holes, Bill Spain and Eveleyn Larocque have sold the Delly Deck bar and restaurant to Jeff Spencer and Jeff and Anna Saplis.
The new owners have made a few subtle changes but say they intend to keep the flavor of the Havensight fixture — good home cooking in a casual, friendly atmosphere.
Jeff Saplis said he has 21 years of restaurant experience on the mainland, running First Watch in Kansas City, the Good Egg in Phoenix and the Moondance Diner in Chicago.
Despite such creative names for his previous establishments, Saplis said he and his partners were not tempted to change the name of the Delly Deck.
"It's been here for about 30 years," he said. "No matter what we named it, people would call it the Delly Deck."
The new owners have added a few things to the menu, such as eggs benedict and cobb salad, but the only thing they've dropped is baloney. They also have made 3 p.m. the start of the daily happy hour, with $2 beers and well drinks.
This summer there will be a little renovation work on the patio, but again no drastic alterations.
While he expects to draw customers from cruise ships in season, Saplis said, he wants local customers to stay happy. "This is a neighborhood place," he said.
The Delly Deck is open Monday through Saturday. The kitchen is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, and until 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
