Oct. 11 – The music makers will be out in force for another "Friday Night Alternative" this weekend on the broad deck behind The Color of Joy gallery and gift shop in Red Hook.
House musician Sally Smith will anchor the entertainment on vocals and keyboard, with Andrew Douglas guesting on steelpan — and, as always, itinerant musicians are invited to sit in. The hours are 6 to 8 p.m.
"We have missed those who haven't made it in the last couple of weeks," Color of Joy owner and "Alternative" host Corinne Van Rensselaer says. Last week, "We had a phenomenal time, rain and all. The music was very heart lifting as always."
The gallery stays open, offering complimentary wine, cheese and crackers. Right outside the double doors facing the American Yacht Harbor docks, there's plenty of space on the Marlin Deck to sit back, relax and enjoy the music.
And for those not in a rush to get home to St. John or elsewhere, Van Rensselaer notes that "the music continues at 8 p.m. at Molly Molones with the crew below," Lightnin' Phil and his low-pressure band. Fortunately for "Friday Night Alternative" fans, she adds, the band "likes to warm up with us first" before heading to its gig at the Irish pub and restaurant on the ground floor of the AYH complex.
