December 6, 2001 – The Children's Reading Program at Enid Baa Public Library on Main Street is featuring books and activities about December holidays in the next three Saturday sessions. Children ages 3-11 are welcome, accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Saturday will feature Chanukah, the Jewish Festival of Lights. Children will learn about the origins of the holiday, how it is celebrated and some customs, according to a release from the Friends of the St. Thomas Public Libraries.
Kwanzaa, the African-inspired harvest festival developed by Dr. Malaun Karenga, will be featured Dec. 15. Along with learning about the holiday, its symbols and celebration, children will hear from a drummer, who will teach some drumming skills and talk about how drums are made.
Christmas customs and stories are on the schedule for Dec. 22.
All sessions will include books – read to and read by children – and craft activities related to the holidays.
The Saturday program will be closed Dec. 29, Jan. 5 and Jan. 19.
The children's room of the library will continue regular hours Monday to Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the school vacation time. Again, children under 11 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
