JAMES MEETS WITH VARIOUS GROUPS IN WASHINGTON

0

Feb. 12, 2002 – While in Washington D.C. attending a meeting of lieutenant governors and state representatives, Lt. Gov. Gerard Luz James II also met with the territory's insurance consultants at the law firm of Holland & Knight.
Roderic L. Woodson, an attorney with the firm, served as the hearing agent at a show cause hearing the end of January.
James had called the hearing to obtain evidence why a moratorium he ordered baring insurance carriers from canceling or non-renewing insurance policies should not remain in effect until June, as ordered.
The release issued from James's office after his return did not say what was discussed in the meeting, only that James has scheduled a continuation hearing for Feb. 21 to obtain more testimony on the issue.
James also finalized plans, while in Washington, for the National Conference of Lieutenant Governors, to be held on St. Croix June 26 to 30.
James made his pitch in July 2000 to host the conference in the Virgin Islands, competing against Las Vegas, Nev.
The executive committee of the National Conference of Lieutenant Governors voted in favor of the Virgin Islands.
